The Ultimate Pampering

What could be Martinborough’s best kept secret is hair stylist and make up artist Gail Wilson’s new exclusive French-style salon at 21 Oxford Street.

Gail, who originally hails from Queenstown, feels that it is important to bring her work related experience in the film industry as a makeup artist and hairdresser to the everyday person, so that they can feel special and pampered and beautiful.

“We have a wonderful private environment where we can offer clients a relaxing massage, salt scrub treatment in what we call our wet room, a hair colour or cut, full makeup services or a relaxing experience in our French-style tub.”

Gail says her philosophy behind the business is to [present a luxurious yet laid back atmosphere where clients can feel totally trusting and therefore relaxed. “My feeling is that people can be quite uptight initially when they come for the whole body experience but the atmosphere here is such that it is very welcoming and relaxing and it’s not long before the dimmed lighting the friendly female staff and soft music do their calming work. And clients walk out of here feeling a million dollars!”

Not all Gail’s business targets women – teenagers, men and children are welcome to try the therapy.

She offers a bridal package personalized for both bride and groom or the entire bridal party. Gail says she is also an image design consultant, and offers a marvelous self esteem service where she styles an image for a client. She can do their shopping for them and select clothes that will do wonders for the wearer.

She also offers a complete hair and makeup service for any occasions.

She says she had worked hard to create just the right internal environment for her business.

“Some of the furniture in the salon comes from Egypt because to my mind, hair and beauty are part of that country’s history. So when you first walk into the main salon you will be agreeably surprised to see how well the interior appointments fit with the warm relaxing atmosphere.

“On the other hand the exterior of the building has a definite French style and I’ve had the outside cladding aged so that it gives a French villa appearance.”

Gail says as she worked on makeup for Lord of the Rings she was later able to call upon some of the set artists to do the paint finishing so that her salon would have the luxuriousness that she was after.
